Sassy's Stargate Adventures

Where are you from (Country and/or State)?
Indiana-Born and Raised. Just like Larabee <G>

How did you get into the Mag7 fandom?
Actually I got into fanfiction altogether because of Glenda and into M7 because of her. I discovered fanfiction through Stargate SG1. While I was reading that I came across a magnificent story called Friendship Lost and had to write the author to tell her how wonderful it was. She was one of the few who wrote back and an instant friendship started...Just like Chris and Vin. <G> She encouraged me to start writing again. After a dozen or so stories in that fandom she started urging me to write M7. I loved westerns but had never written one before but with her help it turned out so much better than I expected.

How long have you been writing Mag7 fanfiction?
Since the end of 2000 or beginning of 2001 I think.

How has your writing changed since you first started?
Hopefully it's gotten better. I think, (thanks to Glenda) I write more emotionally than I used to.

Is this your only fandom, your major fandom or one of many?
This is my major fandom. I started off (again thanks to Glenda) posting in the Stargate SG1 fandom but after starting M7 I really haven't done any more except for the crossover I've had in the works for awhile.

What is it about this fandom that you like?
Everything. I love the characters and interaction between them. They aren't supermen or perfect angels. They're simply different men with different points of view, different backgrounds and values who willingly and some unwillingly stepped into a situation to try and make it better. I do have to say that I love the people in this fandom the walking, talking, people not the imaginary ones. Everyone in this fandom is extremely friendly. I have seen other fandoms where the people barely acknowledge you exist but here everyone makes new comers feel welcome and other authors are not only willing to help but don't hesitate to offer advice and encouragment.

Did you like the Old West before Mag7 or did that come afterwards?
I've been watching westerns since I was a little kid...a long long time ago. Anybody remember Sugarfoot? I used to get in trouble because Mom would catch me up late on a school night watching High Chapparel. It's still one of my favorites. I love the old west period in our history. I would have loved to have lived back than although I would probably have been vegetarian because the thought of killing a animal just turns my stomach.

Did you see the show before you got into the fandom or after, or haven’t you seen the show yet?
Before. Although surprisingly enough I've never seen the movie. I caught the ending one time and because I would keep picturing our guys in their corresponding role, for obvious reasons decided against ever seeing the entire movie.

What do you think about the show opposed to the fandom?
I think if some of the authors in this fandom were writing for the show, it would have had a longer run then Gunsmoke. The authors here really delve into the characters and there's so many original ideas there would be no need for re-runs. If the producers and tv execs would actually go on the web and check things out, one look at this fandom and the show would be back on the air before anyone could say Ezra P Standish.

Is the show your main interest and the fandom comes after or the other way around and why?
I love the show but I think the fandom is my main interest, although it is nice to sit and drool once in a while. I've always loved to read and I like the fandom because it's interesting to see different people's versions of the guys, their emotions, what motivates them, their history, etc.

What are you working on right now?
At the moment I have two old west stories, a crossover and a Lil' Pard story in the works. I'm also editing a fabulous story for Glenda and editing a cross over for a wonderful new writer to the fandom.

How and where do you write?
Anywhere and everywhere, every free moment I have. I mostly write on my computer but if I don't have it handy and the guys decide they wanna start running their mouths, I grab a pen and any paper handy. I used to drive late at night for a courier service so between two a.m and eleven a.m or whenever I got back to the terminal I had a notebook laying on the seat beside me and would scribble while driving down the highway. The interesting part was trying to decipher the scribbles when I got home. <G>

What’s the hardest part about writing in this fandom?
Not feeling inadequate after reading stories by so many wonderful authors who write for this fandom.

Why do you write?
Because I have to. I love writing. I started writing in the sixth grade at the encouragement of my English teacher. She even submitted my first story to a magazine but at that time they didn't accept anything unless you were eighteen years old. I guess I was writing fanfiction before I even knew what it was because alot of my stories featured characters from my favorite shows or even members of my favorite bands. I stopped for a long time (too busy supporting and raising my daughter) but it wasn't until Glenda got me started again that everything in my life seemed to calm down. I didn't get upset or irritated so easily. I guess Josiah would say writing helps me stay balanced.

What writers do you think you've been influenced by?
In life? Louis L'amour, Janet Evanovich, Mary Higgins Clark...quite a few of them. In this fandom? Almost every author influences me in some way.

What advice would you offer to beginning writers?
Listen to the characters (My daughter teases me and Glenda about the seven guys that live in our heads) because they're going to take the story where they want it to go whether it's what you intended or not and they're usually right. Listen to your beta or editor or (whatever you choose to call them) because they see things you may have missed or weren't sure if it worked. Most of all listen to yourself and remember it's your story so write it the way that's going to make you happy. Write to make yourself happy not to please anyone else.

Where do you get your inspiration for your stories from?
Everywhere. Sometimes it may be something as simple as reading a line in a story or hearing a line on television that will set off a whole idea. It may be just seeing a picture and imagining the fellas in it or hearing a song on the radio. Sometimes (and it happens more than I care to admit) a conversation between 2 of the guys will start in my head and I take it from there.

Do you read any of the other AU’s (ATF, LB and so on) out there and do you have a favourite?
I love almost all of the AU's but if I had to pick a favorite besides Glenda's I would probably say it would be LB. Especially the stories that involve Ezra dealing with little Vin and JD.

What do you look for as a reader of fanfiction?
Interesting plots. Good original characters. I like the missing scenes from episodes because it's fun to see how the author pictured the episode happening. I want the story to revolve around the guys and their interactions more than the OC's. I want to see inside the characters head and understand the motivation behind their actions.

Do you think there's anything missing in the fandom?
The only thing missing are the M7 fans who don't know about this fandom. Actually at the moment I would probably say no. There's so many different takes on the characters, stories and AU's that it seems to have everything. Then again, the next time I get the chance to surf for new stories I'm sure I'll find something I would have never thought of.

Types of stories or certain characters that you'd like to see more of?
There's so many diverse stories and characters that it would be hard to choose. I would like to see more of Yolanda's Castaway stories. I think it'll be interesting to see what kind of situations she can put the boys in when they're the only ones on the island. <G> She's done a wonderful job so far. I was really looking forward to the sequel Jean had planned for Lil Ez's return. She was a magnificent writer and will always be missed. I would like to see some more of NotTasha's Amazon series...hint hint hint and I would really like to see some more stories following Freyan's Blue Horse. (BIG HINT)

Are there any characters or situations that you don't think you'll ever write?
Slash or death fics. I don't think I would be very good at slash and I can't bear the thought of killing off any of the characters let alone my fellas.

Who’s your favourite character and why?
That's an easy one...EZRA. Especially the fandom Ezra. He's funny, mischievious, conniving and looks at things different than most people. As strange as it may sound, I identify with him in a lot of ways. I love to play poker and have been playing and watching the game since I was a little kid. I find it very hard to take people at face value and I especially identify with the way he hides his insecurities behind his cocky sarcastic wit. Just to name a few things.

Who’s your second favourite character and why?
Another easy one. Vin! Like Ezra he's a mass of contradictions which makes him an interesting character. He's the perfect western hero.

Who’s your favourite bad guy and why?
I don't think I have a favorite. I have a tendency to ignore the bad guys and just wait for them to get their comeuppance.

What’s your favourite episode and why?
I don't think I really have a favorite episode. I have favorite scenes from each episode. If I had to pick one, it would probably be The Collector. I like the interaction between all the guys especially Ez and Vin. I love the scene with Buck and Ez trying to light the dynamite and Ez letting Vin con him out of the money to save Nettie's homestead, for which he still owes $3 interest.

What’s your favourite story and why?
As much as I love each of Glenda's stories I would have to say...Second Childhood by Jean. It's a fabulous story. Very original and so visual. It's very easy to picture every scene in your mind. I grin like an idiot everytime I think about Chris giving Ez his baff.

Any favourite author?
Lots of them. Of course Glenda is my absolute favorite but there's also Nottasha, Kelly, Jean, Heather, Yolanda, Riverbrat, Aimless, Freyan, Twyla and to many numerous others to name.

What storyline would you most have liked to see in season 3?
Actually there's probably more than one. I would have liked to see a stronger friendship develop between Chris and Ezra. I would have liked to have seen an episode where Ezra uses a con to help clear Vin's name. And I would have liked to see Chris get a little justice by Ella Gaines getting what she deserved.

If you could change one thing about the show, what would it be?
That is wasn't cancelled!
